Ponte da Arrabida - Bridge you can climb

Ponte da Arrabida is a bridge located in the city of Porto, Portugal. It is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city and is a popular tourist attraction.

The bridge was designed by engineer Edgar Cardoso and was completed in 1957. It connects the two sides of the Douro River and offers spectacular views of the city. The bridge is made of reinforced concrete and is 577 meters long. It has two levels, the lower one for pedestrians and the upper one for cars. It took four years of construction to complete the bridge and had a cost of approximately 30 million escudos (150.000 Euros in 1957 but 1 434 325€ at today's prices). The bridge was inaugurated on June 19, 1957, and has been an iconic landmark in the city ever since.

It is a great example of modern engineering and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the engineers and workers who made it possible.

It is a great place to take a walk and admire the stunning views of the city. Ponte da Arrabida is a must-see when visiting Porto and is a great place to take a break and enjoy the beauty of the city.

Since 2016, the arch has become the only one in Europe that is open to visitors. It is a unique opportunity to have access to a building that has been closed to the public for 53 years (despite some clandestine visits...).

Together with a guide and all the safety equipment, even those who are afraid of heights can climb one of the most iconic buildings in Porto. At the top, 65 meters above the river, a quiet and relaxing place to enjoy unique views... and a delicious surprise.

Finally, the descent of the 262 steps reveals the size and elegance of this national monument. From 12 years up, in groups between 1 and 13 people.
